It's no surprise that acne is the 8th most common disease in the world. Most people in the world, not only teenagers have acne.
So today, we are going to be looking at how to reduce, probably not completely remove acne. So let's get started.
According to wikipedia, Acne or acne vulgaris is a long term skin condition that occurs when dead skin cells and oil from the skin clog hair follicles. It causes blackheads and whiteheads, pimples, oily skin and possible scarring. The resulting appearance may result in anxiety, reduced self esteem, depression and suicidal thoughts.
Okay since we've explained what it is and what it does, let's see how to reduce it.
Let's begin:
1. Wash your face daily.
You need to wash your face daily with water and a mild soap to remove the excess oils and dirt.
Just because you need to wash your face, doesn't mean you should over do it. Wash your face once only. Also, don't wash your face with thorough cleansers that dry your skin.
2. Limit dairy intake.
One study hypothesized that acne's association with dairy may be because of the prescence of hormones and biocative molecules in milk.
Another study, tested in teenage boys, also had the same results.
Although more studies are still needed to ensure the tests are accurate, we should stick to the adage, Better safe than sorry.
3. Lifestyle factors.
Many diseases have something to do with lifestyle factors and acne didn't want to be left behind.
A study in Korea showed that lifestyle factors such as smoking, stress, alcohol use, sleep and skin care aggravated acne.
So, strive as much as you can to calm down.
Try relaxation exercises such as:
- Yoga.
- Meditation.
- Sound bathing and many more.
4. Exercise regularly.
Exercise promotes healthy blood circulation. The increase in blood flow helps nourish skin cells, which may help prevent or heal acne.It also helps in hormone level regulation.
5. No sweets before umm everything.
Although more studies are needed, you should try your best to avoid all sweet and sugary beverages as they may increase acne.
6. Remove makeup before bed.
Never sleep with makeup on as this can trap more oil in your pores. Remove your makeup and clean your face thoroughly before retiring to bed.
7. Call the doctor.
Their is a lot of medication to treat acne, just make sure to ask your doctor.
Additionally, you can try out certain diets but make sure to ask your medical practitioner before endulging in any diet.
Foods you should eat:
- Vegetables and Fruits such as kales, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, pineapple, bananas, watermelon and berries.
- Unsweetened beverages such as water, green tea and lemon water.
- Whole grains and starchy vegetables such as barley, brown rice, millet, oatmeal and sweet potato.
- High-quality proteins such as salmon, tuna, eggs, chicken, halibut, and whitefish.
- Legumes such as green peas, lentils and beans.
- Healthy fats such as avocados, whole egs and nuts.
