Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. What do these colours remind you of? Of course, it's a rainbow, one of the most beautiful phenomenons on planet earth.
I remember when I first saw a rainbow. The magical feeling I felt, I cannot describe. As I grew up, the rainbow brought me joy every time I saw it. I even once asked my dad if we could go and ride the rainbow one day. But alas, that dream never has come true.
Surely, as I grew up, I kept on having that love for rainbows. But I wanted to know more. I wanted to know every single thing about rainbows. Although I still don't know all about them, I gathered 5 of the most colourful facts about rainbows that you may not know.
1. Did you know that not every one sees the same rainbow?
Each person has a different horizon. Beacause the water vapor in the air disperses light all the time in so many directions, no one sees the same rainbow. So, even if your friend is standing beside you, he/she is not seeing the same rainbow as you.
2. Earth is the only planet in the solar system with rainbows.
Of course, Saturn rains 1000 tons of diamond rain every year but we have one thing they don't, Rainbows. So, be happy, we're lucky that the rainbow is on our side and will never leave us.
3. Longest lasting rainbow.
We usually see a rainbow for a few minutes. But, did you know that the the longest lasting rainbow observation is 8 hours and 58 minutes. Yes, according to the Guiness World Record, it was achieved by Chinese Culture University (Chinese Taipei) at Yangmingshan, Taipei, Chinese Taipei.
4. If you're a unicorn lover, then this is the perfect fact for you.
At night, moonbows are rarely seen although our eyes see them as white. So, this is the perfect time to look for unicorns.
5. So, how many colours are really in a rainbow?
The number of colours in a rainbow is in the eyes of the beholder. The colours of a rainbow blend with the next one, so classifying them is really a huge task. The number of colours really depends on how we choose to name the colours according to their shades.
