Top 10 Cute Endangered Species.

"Aww," is what is usually heard whenever someone sees a cute animal. Be it polar bears, pandas or even puppies, these cute animals never cease to catch your attention. No wonder, many of them are engaged in environmental posters.
But, many of these cute animals are starting to grow extinct. Why? There are so many reasons: Climate change, pollution, deforestation, poaching, just to name a few.
Let's look at some of the cute endangered species. Share this with a friend and continue spreading the need for their conservation. If you can't do it for us, do it for these animals that need your help.
1. Black-footed ferrets...

In the 1979, the black-footed ferrets were declared extinct. But in 1981, a dead ferret was discovered. Scientists scrambled to find more ferrets to save the diminishing species.
Despite their growing numbers, the black-footed ferret isn't out of the woods yet mainly because their main prey(prairie dogs) are shrinking in numbers.
Only 350 or less of the black-footed ferrets remain in the world and if we don't do anything to save them, only their images will be left to remind us of their beauty.
2. Fennec Foxes.

Although the Fennec Foxes are still not yet considered endangered, some scientists are concerned about them. Because of their size and cute appearance, many of them are captives for pet trade.
No matter how cute they are, we should strive to see them as the wild animals they are and not as mere pets.
3. Sand Cats.
Sand cats, just like the Fennec foxes, are also growing extinct due to habitat loss and pet trade. In 1994, the Fennec Foxes went extinct in Israel. Luckily, a litter of kittens were recently born at Tel Aviv to save the dying species.
4. Polar bears.

Polar bears are continuing to decrease because of the loss of their sea ice habitat resulting from climate change.
Because of global warming, the polar bears habitat is decreasing and their numbers are closely following. These poor creatures need our help or they may just diminish slowly till extinction.
5. Vaquita.

The Vaquita is a porpoise found in the Sea of Cortez(nothern area of the Gulf of California). It reaches to approximately four and a half feet when fully grown which is quite a small size.

Among all the animals mentioned, The Vaquita seems to be the most endagered. In fact, it is believed that there may be less than 12 Vaquita left.

Because of the illegal gillnet fishing for a sea trout(Totoaba), many Vaquitas end up ensnared in the nets meant for the sea trout.

Sadly, the Vaquita’s hope of missing extinction is long beyond gone but many organizations still refuse to give up hope.

It will be sad to watch these little ones go but if we start spreading awareness, the Vaquita may still have a chance to survive.

6. Amur Leopard.

The Amur Leopards are natives in Russia. With fewer than 65 left in the wild, this cute species is critically endangered.

The species is mainly threatened by poaching and climate change.

We can still save this dying species. It is not over till it’s over. We can do so much, we just need the hearts to do it.

7. American Pika.

Well adapted to the cold alpine conditions, Pikas cannot tolerate high temperatures. Due to climate change, the freezing alpine mountains are getting warmer and warmer by the second. This makes them to continue retreating upslope to escape the dire temperatures but soon, they will have nowhere left to run.

The American Pika’s population have greatly decreased. They have already disappeared from one third of their previous habitats and are facing further extinction.

Biologists now fear that these humble creatures may not make it out of this global warming mess alive.

It’s highly unlikely that they will adapt to the high temperatures before they go extinct.

8. Pangolin.

How could you not love these creatures? Unlike many furry creatures, the pangolin’s aromor-like scales is what makes them so adorable.

Also, they have the ability to roll in a ball whenever they feel threatened.

But pangolins are getting more extinct day by day. According to recent studies, pangolins are the most trafficked animals in the world with approximately 1 million of them taken from the wild in the past 10 or so years. This is a stunning 20 percent of the entire wildlife black market.

This is because they are illegally captured for their meat and scales which is believed to have medicinal properties(although this is not true).

Conservation of this tiny creatures is also growing challenging because of little awareness and inadequate funding.

All the 8 species of Pangolin have plummeted and are in serious danger of extinction. Four of the species are vulnerable, two are endangered and the remaining two are listed as critically endangered.

9. Sumatran Orangutan.

Coming from the ape family are the Sumatran Orangutans. Closely following the Bornean Orangutans, which are also facing extinction, these creatures are being pushed to the limits. Logging, forest fires, deforestation, poaching and pet trade in black markets are just some of the many threats to this tree-bound species.

It is estimated that extinction is likely in the next 10 years.

10. African Penguin.

The African Penguin is facing challenging situations due to global warming.

Due to the rising temperatures, their nesting grounds are unsuitable for chick survival. Fisheries have also decreased their food source leaving little for them to eat.

Another reason for their decline is that their poop, which they used to make nests, was a popular source of fertilizer. So as humans continued gathering their poop, their nest materials declined so they were unable to hatch more penguins.

At their rate of current decline, they are estimated to be extinct by 2026.
